News: Shiny New The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Pictures

It’s less than a month until the feel bad movie of Christmas, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, hits cinema screens and we’ve just gotten our filthy little hands on some stills from the film. Shall we take a look? You’re darn tooting we shall!

Daniel Craig’s Mikael Blomkvist being chased by reporters. This must be pretty early in the movie, when Blomkvist is left financially ruined after reporting false allegations about a powerful company. Of course, we know Mikael was set up…

His reputation in tatters and with some time on his hands after leaving Millennium, the political magazine helped to found, Blomkvist receives a request to visit retired CEO of the Vanger Corporation, Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer). There Mikael learns of the mysterious disappearance of Vanger’s niece, Harriet, and is asked if he will complete a final investigation and finally discover what happened to her.

And here’s the eponymous Girl herself, Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara).

An unusual, introverted, and anti-social person with an exceptional talent for hacking and investigation, Salander is asked to look into Mikael Blomkvist by the Vanger’s lawyer to discover if he’s the right man to find out what happened to Harriet. Lisbeth concludes Blomkvist is a good man and that he was set up in the case that ruined him.

Just so you know, Lisbeth Salander’s handle when she’s hacking – Wasp.

Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) and Erika Berger (Robin Wright). Erika is Editor-In-Chief and majority share-holder at Millennium, the magazine where Blomkvist works. She is also his part-time lover, in a way that you could only probably get away with in Sweden. Robin Wright isn’t bad casting, I ‘spose, but I still prefer Lena Endre from the Swedish version. She was almost exactly as I envisioned Erika from the book.

Very Carrie. Of course I’m not going to spoil the film for you if you haven’t seen it, but lets just say something truly awful happens to poor Lisbeth.

Here the tiny Lisbeth confronts her manipulative guardian, Nils Bjurman (Yorick van Wageningen). I think this is my favourite pic of the bunch, because it shows a different Salander from the book and Noomi Rapace’s version. The book’s Salander I found to be petulant and reactionary, it was only when I saw Rapace in the swedish film that I began to relate to her as a character. Though Noomi’s portrayal was angry and fierce, it was during the quieter moments when looking into those dark eyes, that you finally got a more human, rounded Lisbeth. I’m hoping Mara and Fincher have combined to give us something more along those lines.

Blomkvist needs someone to help him with the investigation. When he discovers he was looked into by the Vangers, there’s only one person he wants – Salander.

Interviewing the various members of the Vanger family digs up some very dark secrets…

…and as they delve deeper into Harriet Vanger’s disappearance, things get very dangerous…

… when the pair’s research leads them to a brutal and sadistic serial killer still at large.

Well, I hope I’ve whetted your appetite for the film and not spoiled it too much. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo opens on Boxing Day 26th December here in the UK and I genuinely can’t wait to see it.
