News: Rooney Mara Channels A Clockwork Orange For New York Times Photo Shoot

As the year comes to an end, those lucky bastards at The New York Times Magazine have managed to get together a collection of the year’s most notable stars for a special video gallery entitled “A Touch Of Evil”. A gallery where each of those shining examples of humanity have chosen a theme and character to portray their inner-villain. Let’s take a look.

We’ll start with Rooney Mara because I like her best. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star chose The Sociopath as her theme, and Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange as her character. As if you couldn’t tell.

Rooney says of her character: “‘‘There is something off about Alex, something slightly androgynous and something much more fascinating and complex than simply a ‘villain’. I also knew it would save me time in hair and makeup with only having to apply one fake eyelash.’’

I just want to say that if Rooney, or indeed any lady girl, turned up at my door dressed like this I would GLADLY succumb to their every whim. Yes, I know I’m probably revealing a little too much of my own sexual proclivities, but dammit, these pics are HOT.

It’s not all Rooney, though. Here’s Brad Pitt. He chose Madman as his theme and Henry Spencer of Eraserhead as his character.

It should come as no surprise to see Brad playing the madman, really. He was brilliantly bat-shit insane in Twelve Monkeys and even his Tyler Durden in Fight Club had a properly fucked-up stare. I like Brad. He is good.

Gary Oldman put a lot of effort into his character, The Menacing Dummy, and it is genuinely, unsettlingly creepy. He says: ‘‘I used to have one of those dolls when I was a kid. They’re creepy to have in the room. When I got older, I got into archery, and he became my target. So I put it to rest.’’

Kirsten Dunst, looking more like Mary-Jane Watson than she ever did in the Spider-Man movies, chose The Siren as her theme. I haven’t been able to work out her character (if indeed she’s playing one), could someone please enlighten me?

These kind of year-end things wouldn’t be complete without an appearance from The Cloonster himself, George Clooney. He chose The Tyrant as his theme, and Captain Bligh from Mutiny On The Bounty as his character.

I think he pulls it off bloody well, but in typical Clooney fashion here’s what he has to say on his choice of character: ‘I picked Captain Bligh because I liked his hat. Bad guys don’t think they’re bad guys. In film, the best evil performances are when the actor remembers that.’’

There are more pics and stars, all with accompanying videos over on The New York Times Magazine website. I recommend you take a look.

  1. Nice pics of Rooney Mara. Just gave me an idea on what I would be next Halloween. It doesn’t help, too, that Clockwork Orange is one of my favorite films.
