Weekly Ricochet: The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Ted, Sin City 2, Seven Psychopaths, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Pixar’s Brave…

The Weekly Ricochet is jam-packed to the rafters this week, so let’s get to it.

Rumour has it that The Dark Knight Rises has had its first showing to Warner Bros. execs. Director Christopher Nolan is said to have a shown a very early rough cut of the film, probably to soothe the uptight money men after the big Avengers reveal at the start of the month. That’s all well and good, Mr Nolan, but when are we proles going to get see a new trailer to tide us over until the summer release? My money’s on next month.

Here’s a nice behind-the-scenes shot from The AvengersDirector Joss Whedon is sat talking with Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. on set. Seems pretty relaxed, and word is the two scientist/inventor characters they play, Bruce Banner and Tony Stark, are quite pally too. In other Avengers news, the world première of the film set for 11th April, which hardly seems that far away at all. Because it isn’t.

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb was at Wondercon this week, doing the rounds with the bloggers and press. He got asked a very interesting question as to whether there are any hints to future villains in the new film. Webb’s answer? – “There are”. He went on to answer more fully – “The movie is conceived first and foremost to work as its own entity but there are certain things like… the story of his parents that emotionally and narratively are the long shadow that’s cast over his life. Certainly there are hints to deeper stories but, you know, we’ve got to finish this before we can get to that so it was important that it function on its own.”

This poster has been spotted at Wondercon too, leading fans to WebbedMenace.com, a new viral site for The Amazing Spider-Man. It features a new video of Denis Leary as Captain Stacy.

Seems he’s got a chip on his shoulder about Ol’ Webhead.

Here are some pre-production shots of Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander before The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo started filming (Obvs. That’s what ‘pre-production means). Pretty cool seeing the various ‘outsider’ looks they went through before landing on the blunt-fringed, dyed eyebrows alien look.

This is the poster for Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane’s directorial début, Ted. Starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, the synopsis reads like this – “In the live action/CG-animated comedy, McFarlane tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since.” Expect sweary, boundary-pushing humour.

Director Robert Rodriguez reckons Sin City 2 will film this year. I admire his confidence, but I don’t see it happening. I’m not entirely sure I want a sequel anyway. I found the first film soulless, and the subsequent revelations of what a right-wing nut Frank Miller is has left me ice-cold to the majority of his work. But hey, that’s just me.

Good news! In Bruges director Martin McDonagh’s next film, Seven Psychopaths, has a release date. The film, starring Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken, and Sam Rockwell, is due out November 2nd.

The live-action version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has also been given a release date, before it even has a director! The film is due to open on Christmas Day 2013. Battle: Los Angeles and Wrath Of The Titans director Jonathan Liebesman is due to take the reins. Producer Michael Bay said this recently – “When you see this movie, kids will believe one day that these turtles do exist, when we’re done with this movie. These turtles are form an alien race, and they’re going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable.” Seems the Turtles are no longer mutants but aliens. Bay bringing Transformers logic to the film then…

And to finish, Disney and Pixar have released a bucketload of pics and wallpapers from BraveYou can find them all on the official Brave website. I recommend you do because they’re all pretty stunning.

That’s all for now, Please let us know what you think down below and we’ll see you again next week for the Ricochet.
