News: The Amazing Spider-Man Posters and Brand New Trailer

The Avengers, the first in a trifecta of superhero movies this summer is out (or almost out) the world over. Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises has used this opportunity to release its latest trailer and air it before Marvel Studios’ behemoth, and guess what? So has Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Before we get to the new trailer (I like to keep you all in suspense), I thought it’d be cool to check out a series of posters, like the one above, and new pics from the film. Let’s get to it!

I haven’t been a fan of the marketing for The Amazing Spider-Man, I’ll admit. I’ve found the darker colours and the familiar poses a little dull. My opinion doesn’t change here.

Enough of my whining, these new poster show a battle damaged Spidey. Seems he’s been in a scrap with somebody or something with big nasty claws.

Something over-familiar about this poster too. Okay, it could be argued these poses are unique to the character. They’re iconic, they’re what defines him and his superability, but c’mon, to me it smacks of laziness. This film is meant to be a reboot of the series, surely you need to do more than swap out the colours of the posters? You want the viewing public to know this a new series of films, don’t you?

Ah, this is more like it. A shot from the film. You might remember this from the last trailer, where Spidey (Andrew Garfield) is apparently captured and then breaks free and takes out the SWAT team.

Peter Parker has been in the wars. Check out the background. Looks like a lab. And is that a lizard I see? Speaking off which…

There he is! The Lizard, in this traditional white lab coat. Happy now fanboys? No, probably not.

There’s that big giant claw I hinted at before. Yet again another villain discovers the identity of our hero. Seriously, Peter, your name of the camera? What are you? An idiot? But that’s enough of my foolin’. You all just want to see the new Spider-Man trailer, don’t you? Well, here you go.

So, what do you think? It reveals a little more about the plot, and of The Lizard. Spidey’s strengths and abilities look pretty perfectly realised. It’s all about giving the character weight as he leaps, swings, and climbs. Let’s hope it stays that way for most of the film. I’m not entirely buying the need for all the ‘secrets’ involving Peter’s family, and I feel the biological disaster that threatens the city is yet another tacked on upping of the stakes. When will Hollywood realise that a credible and convincing menace to our hero is more than enough. The  bigger the scale of the hazard doesn’t necessarily mean the greater involvement of the audience. Rant over. Sorry.

The Amazing Spider-Man leaps onto UK screens from the 4th July.
