News: Star Trek 2 News And Rumours *POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

J.J. Abrams is doing his darndest to keep his Star Trek set in lockdown so we blogging types don’t spoil it with our babbling. That said, a few little titbits have slipped into the harsh light of day and thrust them into your hungry and willing faces right now.

First up is this pic of Trek newcomer Alice Eve and Spock himself, Zachary Quinto. There has been a lot of speculation over Eve’s character in the franchise. Would she play a new version of an existing Trek universe character or someone entirely new to the series? Fans have named Yeoman Janice Rand, Nurse Christine Chapel, Lt. Marla Givers, Dr. Elizabeth Dehner, and Dr. Carol Marcus as potential options before this pic was released. She looks to be wearing a flight suit, so that would rule out a nurse or doctor, but hey, this is all guesswork and conjecture.

Leonard Nimoy, the original Spock, visited the set recently sparking rumours he was there to shoot a few scenes. Nimoy himself was coy about the situation revealing little in a recent interview – “I visited the set one day and that started some speculation about whether I was doing the film. It’s all speculation. I talk to these people regularly. Zachary Quinto and I have dinner whenever we can. We just had dinner three or four weeks ago. I talk to J.J. about family. His parents and I go back a number of years as friends. I knew them long before I ever met J.J. So we talk regularly. I visited the set one day because I had never seen the bridge. When I was in the last film, none of my work was on the bridge of the Enterprise. So I wanted to see the bridge, and the bridge was extraordinary. It’s beautifully designed and put together. We talk. It’s great. I expect that it’s going to be a gigantic film. Look, I think he’s put together a wonderful cast of people. His writers are imaginative and energetic. I think we’re going to see another great Star Trek movie.”

Benedict Cumberpatch’s roles has been subject to the most speculation of all. Who is he playing? Well, TrekMovie (be careful clicking on that link, it reveals A LOT MORE than Cumberpatch’s role) is reporting that they know the identity of the character and it is none other than… Khan Noonien Singh. A mixture of high-pitched squees and loud sighs at that news. Before you get too excited or depressed about this info, there has been no official confirmation of this news, with co-writer Roberto Orci even going so far to the webs and piss on the rumour saying – “No remakes. No rehashes.” Of course, those words do nothing to dispel the news, a new story involving Khan is entirely possible, but for now take the info with a pinch of salt.

Star Trek 2 is nearing the end of filming, as Scotty’s Simon Pegg recently revealed on Twitter, and is due for release in just over one years time on May 17th 2013.
