News: New Dredd Teaser Poster And New Pics

We’re still waiting for that darn trailer, but in the meantime JoBlo has managed to get an exclusive on the Dredd poster and a couple of new pics. I have to say, I REALLY like the poster. Simple, but effective. The shadowing does a great job of making the helmet not look so big and ridiculous (as had been some of the complaints from the fanboys). I would have preferred it if the badge had taken some prominence. Ah well…

Here’s our first look at Mega City One’s skyline. Hm. I would have liked it to have been more densely packed, but some of the buildings have the large and looming look. You have to remember that Dredd doesn’t have the same budget as Stallone’s version, so these city shots may be few and far between. In fact, it’s been said the story mostly takes place within an apartment building and has been likened to Die Hard.

Dredd (Karl Urban) lays down the law on some perps.

And here’s a full body shot of Karl Urban as Dredd. What do you think of the armour/helmet? Let us know below.

Before we go, Judge Dredd creator John Wagner has seen the film and had this to say –

“I went up to London yesterday to see the completed Dredd film. I’ve had reservations about certain aspects of it, and made them plain to the team at DNA. All but one of them – a little quibble at the beginning – have been addressed. And what a lot they’ve added. Music is on the button. SFX are excellent. Filming is impressive. I’ve not seen a modern 3-D movie before but I like it. I found myself reaching out trying to touch things that were dancing before my eyes.

Karl is a great Dredd and Olivia gets Anderson completely. This is Dredd as it should be done – true to character, visceral, unrelentingly violent (but not off-puttingly so). It will open, I believe, sometime in September. No doubt you’ll let me know what you think when you’ve seen it, but this has my recommendation.”

I’m glad Wagner enjoyed it and it’s all well and good to see the poster and check out some new pics, but isn’t it time we had the trailer by now? Just a little teaser to get a taste of Urban as Dredd and get a brief look at the world in which he inhabits. We live in hope…

Dredd, directed by Pete Travis and written by Alex Garland, is due for release on the 21st September.
