News: Daredevil To Be Directed By Joe Carnahan?

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, David Slade has dropped out of the Daredevil reboot for Fox Studios, which sent execs into overdrive searching for a willing victim to take up the difficult (ridiculous) task of getting the film into production by October. Why does it need to be in production by October? That’s when the rights revert back to Marvel and they can get their hands on a very recognisable Avenger. So, who is mad enough to take on this challenge?

Well, the rumour mill says that Joe Carnahan, director of brilliant The Grey and the daft but enjoyable The A-Team, is the man Fox have collared for the job. Carnahan was last attached to the remake of right-wing wank fantasy Death Wish, which you can expect to be put on the back-burner if this Daredevil stuff turns out to be true. It’s also been speculated that Fox are willing to forgo rights on certain characters to move that October deadline back and give Carnahan more time. The names of those certain characters? – Galactus and The Silver Surfer. The ball is now in Marvel’s court.

I really liked what Carnahan did with The Greyit was a different, more considered movie than the marketing made it out to be, so I have high hopes if he is indeed announced as the director of Daredevil. Fox have said they want the film to be a “Frank Miller-esque, hardcore ’70s thriller”. I’m not so sure about that, but I do know that Matt Murdock deserves a decent adaption. Carnahan might just be the right guy for the job.

What do you think of Joe Carnahan? Would you be excited for a new Daredevil film directed by him? What do you think of Fox/Marvel negotiating of Galactus and The Silver Surfer? Let us know below.
