Killing Them Softly, formerly known as Cogan’s Trade, is director Andrew Dominik’s long-awaited third feature after wowing us with the likes of Chopper and the truly wonderful The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. Once again teaming with Brad Pitt, the film follows Pitt’s mob enforcer tasked with finding the thieves that dared to rob a high stakes poker game attended by some very ruthless people. Some films wallow in their depression. Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem For A Dream comes to mind. A film so unrelentingly bleak that in envelops you in a cold dark blanket of despair. It’s brilliant, but after watching it once you wouldn’t ever want to sit through it again. Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford is not one of those films.
