I’m not sure how but I’ve missed telling you all about Rian Johnson’s Looper. I mean this is right up The Shootening’s street – a sci-fi time travelling actioner starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as the same character?! I need to be taken aside and given a stern telling off. Continue reading

I’ve been on a bit of an action movie bender lately. Among the more forgettable, throwaway titles, I watched The Expendables, the movie that brings together an entire generation of action movie stars, and Taken, where Liam Neeson plays and ex-CIA agent who’ll go through anybody and anything to rescue his kidnapped daughter. You come to The Shootening and it’s all The Avengers this, The Dark Knight Rises that, but I swear that I’m not all comic book/superhero movies. No, I enjoy the indies just as much. And if there was anyone who could be crowned king of the indie, it would be Wes Anderson, all of which brings me in a long and drawn out way to his latest film, Moonrise Kingdom. Continue reading

Wes Anderson’s films have always had distinctive posters. Rushmore and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou stand out in particular. I absolutely love them and I feel the same about the new poster for Moonrise Kingdom. It has a fairytale sense of wonder coupled Anderson’s (un)usual charm. Here’s hoping that it perfectly represents the film.  Continue reading
