I’ve mentioned a few times how I’d like to see a return of the intelligent sci-fi blockbuster. This year we’ve had the somewhat disappointing Prometheusand I’ve talked a few times about Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity, which unfortunately been delayed until 2013. So, it’s up to the returning Wachowskis, joined by Tom Twyker, to take up the cause with Cloud Atlas. Continue reading

News: First Official Shot From Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium

Posted in Movies, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on July 9, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

I haven’t gotten around to watching Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 yet. I’ve heard good things but simply haven’t found the time. It’s something I must rectify forthwith. Anyway, Blomkamp has been busy at work on his follow-up project, Elysium, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. After my hopes of a resurgence in intelligent sci-fi were dashed with Prometheushere’s hoping Elysium and Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity can get the ball rolling next year, eh? Continue reading

News: Prometheus IMAX Poster And New Clips

Posted in Movies, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 9, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

My review for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is up now waiting to be read. Firstly, check out this IMAX poster that has a very cool retro/70s look to it. Or, if that’s not enough, why not watch these clips, see if they’re enough to convince you to leave the filthy squalor of your house for the shiny brilliance of the movie screen. Continue reading

Review: Prometheus

Posted in Movie Review, Movies with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 5, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

I know nearly every review for the film will make mention of this so I’m going to get it out of the way at the start – Prometheus sees Ridley Scott’s long-awaited return to sci-fi, a genre where he made such stone-cold classics as Alien and Blade Runner. Can Prometheus possibly live up to such a lofty billing, or will it be fanboy crushing damp squib like a certain Phantom Menace? Read on and find out.

Posted in Movies, News with tags , , , , , , on May 30, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

The release of Prometheus (here in the UK, at least) is only two days away. The first reviews are out and doing the rounds. Here are the thoughts of  The Hollywood Reporter, Empire, and Total Film if you want to know if the film lives up to the hype. Beware of spoilers, of course. In the meantime, why don’t you watch a load of featurettes about Ridley Scott’s return to sci-fi. Go on. It’ll be fun*.

News: New Prometheus Featurette Focusses On Charlize Theron’s Meredith Vickers

Posted in Movies, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 25, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

I’d love to offer up a brilliant insightful clip that defines the potential brilliance of Ridley Scott’s latest film, Prometheus, but all I have is a slight puff-piece on Charlize Theron’s character Meredith Vickers. Will that do? It’ll have to. Continue reading

News: Massively Spoilerific New Prometheus Poster

Posted in Movies, Poster with tags , , , , , , , , on May 18, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

This not the new Prometheus poster, by the way. This is the teaser poster from before Christmas when the marketing for the film was still going for the subtle and mysterious, not the “let’s show them EVERYTHING so there’s no drama or surprises left when they go to the cinema to see it” we’re getting now. Maybe, just maybe, we’re not being shown everything and Ridley Scott’s return to sci-fi will shock and surprise like his original Alien did. We live in hope.
