Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges was the perfect mix of gangster thriller and pitch black comedy, and the director’s re-team with Colin Farrell seems to be in very much the same vein. The last trailer for Seven Psychopaths was brilliant but lacked the edge of McDonagh’s features, will the red band version of the trailer provide it? Let’s take a look.

Some films wallow in their depression. Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem For A Dream comes to mind. A film so unrelentingly bleak that in envelops you in a cold dark blanket of despair. It’s brilliant, but after watching it once you wouldn’t ever want to sit through it again. Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford is not one of those films. Review: Cowboys and Aliens

I can see the studio execs now – “You mean this movie will have cowboys AND aliens? Guy, this’ll be box office dynamite!” Of course, the only  the last sci-fi/western mash-up that springs to mind is Barry Sonnenfeld’s disastrous Wild Wild West, so a healthy return on your investment is not exactly guaranteed. I’d be willing to bet, though, that the fact Cowboys and Aliens was already a comic book got the picture greenlit faster than a quickdraw with Quicky McQuickson, the fastest draw in the West. Those kids lap up comic book movies…
