News: Liam Neeson Will Find Them And Kill Them Again In Taken 2 Trailer And Brief Featurette

Okay, I admit it. I was a little late to the Taken party. I finally got my stupid ass around to watching the action thriller a few weeks ago, and my God it did not disappoint. Liam Neeson is ex-CIA agent Bryan Mills. His young daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) ventures off on holiday overseas to France much against his will, and such is the way in these things, badness happens and his daughter is kidnapped. Mills, using his particular set of skills, brutally and efficiently tears his way through the Paris underworld in order to rescue her. It is fierce, violent, and fantastic. Anyway, luckily for me, Taken 2 is out soon and here’s the trailer. Continue reading

Feature: Top Ten Deadliest Movie Characters (Whom I Like)

I’ve been on a bit of an action movie bender lately. Among the more forgettable, throwaway titles, I watched The Expendables, the movie that brings together an entire generation of action movie stars, and Taken, where Liam Neeson plays and ex-CIA agent who’ll go through anybody and anything to rescue his kidnapped daughter. These two titles got me thinking – Exactly how many people have these walking holocausts killed altogether? Continue reading

News: Fox Pass On Joe Carnahan’s Daredevil, Rights Head Back To Marvel

Posted in Movies, News with tags , , , , , , , , , on August 23, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

Last time we talked about Daredevil Fox Studios were in talks with director Joe Carnahan. They wanted to get the film into production now in order to retain the rights to the character and not have them revert to Marvel. The Grey director produced some sizzle reels for his vision of The Man Without Fear, but Fox didn’t really like what they saw and decided to pass. With it now looking impossible to get the film into production by the October deadline, it seems Fox have given up and decided to let the rights go back to Marvel.

News: Daredevil To Be Directed By Joe Carnahan?

Posted in Movies, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 6, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, David Slade has dropped out of the Daredevil reboot for Fox Studios, which sent execs into overdrive searching for a willing victim to take up the difficult (ridiculous) task of getting the film into production by October. Why does it need to be in production by October? That’s when the rights revert back to Marvel and they can get their hands on a very recognisable Avenger. So, who is mad enough to take on this challenge?  Continue reading

Review: The Grey

Posted in Movie Review, Movies with tags , , , , , , , on June 1, 2012 by Bjorn Grainger

If you’d seen any of the marketing for The Grey, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the movie was just a dumb action flick where Liam Neeson tapes up his fists with broken glass and punches the shit out of some wolves. It’s certainly what I thought. But you’d be wrong. Director Joe Carnahan delivers a film that’s a hell of a lot more thoughtful and considered.

Weekly Ricochet: Skyfall, Man Of Steel, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Arrested Development, Death Wish, I Am Bruce Lee, X-Men First Class,

Hello. Yes, I know, it’s been awhile since my update. You must forgive me for stepping away from the laptop for a few days, but I had to go out and see that big shiny world and those weird people I call “friends”. I found myself in an icy cold and wintry London where I caught some brilliant comedy courtesy of the Alternative Comedy Memorial Society (check out their hashtag on Twitter – #ACMS. They do share it with a few other folk, though), live music by the fraktacular Wild Flag (My heart hurts for Carrie Brownstein), and even managed to catch a film – Haywire. I am back now and I’m going to use the ol’ Weekly Ricochet to catch up on some the news I missed. Let’s get to it. Continue reading

I got VERY excited about the teaser trailer to Joe Carnahan’s The Grey a few months back. I mean, it has Liam Neeson fighting wolves. Continue reading
