It’s okay to be interested in The Wolverine. It is. Yes, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a crushing disappointment but doesn’t mean The Wolverine will be. Of course, we would have preferred it to have stayed in the hands of Darren Aronofsky, and to have kept Christoper McQuarrie’s much-praised pass on the script, but if only a tiny fraction of their influence remains (and hasn’t been excised by Fox Studios meddling execs), then director James Mangold should have a half-decent film on his hands. Posted in Movies, News with tags Anthony Hopkins, Batman, Black Swan, Christopher Nolan, Darren Aronofsky, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, Noah, Requiem For A Dream, Russell Crowe, The Wolverine on August 11, 2012 by Bjorn GraingerDarren Aronofsky is one of my favourite directors. His work is usually bleak (Requiem For A Dream is CRUSHING) and populated by flawed and self-destructive characters, but I can’t get enough of it. He was attached to the Batman reboot before Warner Bros. settled on Christopher Nolan, and was even due to direct The Wolverine for Fox before having to drop out because of the long overseas shoot. I would have very much liked to have seen that. Anyway, that freed him up to make the long gestating project of Noah.
